  Frequently asked questions

IN today’s article, I will try to answer a number of questions that most people ask and that may be boggling even your mind right now. Read on.

Q: Pastor, I married my wife in 2001 in a traditional way and our marriage was not blessed in Church .I still love my wife though my Pastor has advised me to divorce her so that I can look for another woman and have my marriage blessed in Church. Pastor can I divorce her?

Ans: Never should you do such a thing because only death can put your marriage asunder. Do not divorce so as to have a right to have another woman. You married in a traditional way where only parents blessed your marriage. What you need to do now is take your wife and go and sit down with your Pastor so that he can counsel you and then he will pray for you and commit your marriage in God’s hands.

Q: Pastors, why do you tell people to divorce because they married in a traditional way? Does it mean all the members you have in your Church had weddings? God loves even those who had their marriages blessed in a traditional way. It is your duty to help them have their marriages in line with scriptures for them to have their marriages in a Godly way. If you don’t know these, stop marrying couples/blessing marriages but bring in some one to help with the word of God to have all traditional marriages turned into scriptural blessed marriages.

Death link to too much red meat PDF Print E-mail
SCIENTISTS have produced new evidence suggesting eating lots of red and processed meat damages health.

 Red Meat
They found big meat eaters had a raised risk of death from all causes over a 10-year period.  In contrast, a higher intake of white meat was associated with a slightly reduced risk of death over the same period.

The US study, featured in Archives of Internal Medicine, was based on more than 500,000 people.  The researchers, from The US National Cancer Institute, found those whose diet contained the highest proportion of red or processed meat had a higher overall risk of death, and specifically a higher risk of cancer and heart disease than those who ate the least.  People eating the most meat were eating about 160g of red or processed meat per day - approximately a 6oz steak.

An outlook by Marie-Claire Faray-Kele and the Women's International League for Peace.

SURVEYING the plethora of problems faced by women in Africa, Marie-Claire Faray-Kele and the Women's International League for Peace (WILPF) argue that while divided in the diversity of their backgrounds, African women are united in their collective voice. Highlighting the detrimental role of spurious assumptions about 'tradition' in preventing women from speaking for themselves, the authors state that overcoming gender inequality represents the key solution for tackling poverty on the continent and allowing the wisdom of Africa's women to be harnessed.

DEVELOPMENT of women football is an issue that has been widely talked about in the media and though there seems to be gradual progress taking place, a look at Bauleni United, a Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) women’s league team which boasts of having young, skillful and disciplined players will show you how eager the girls are prepared to make this development a life-long reality.

I witnessed the team in action when they played a friendly game against American school where Bauleni emerged 4-1 winners recently.

Bauleni clad in a black and white stripe tutored the Americans on their neat playing surface while executing well calculated moves that resulted into classic goals.

Team coach, Kangwa Kaluba says the team has made a lot of strides since it’s formation in 2002 under the sports for all programme in the Lusaka Province Women Football League (LPWF) played at district level.
The budding team has accumulated a number of accolades which includes being crowned champions of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) tournament in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

‘Brain decline’ begins at age 27 PDF Print E-mail

MENTAL powers start to dwindle at 27 after peaking at 22, marking the start of old age, US research suggests.
Professor Timothy Salthouse of the University of Virginia found reasoning, spatial visualisation and speed of thought all decline in our late 20s.

‘Brain decline’ begins at age 27

Therapies designed to stall or reverse the ageing process may need to start much earlier, he said.
His seven-year study of 2,000 healthy people aged 18-60 is published in the journal Neurobiology of Aging. To test mental agility, the study participants had to solve puzzles, recall words and story details and spot patterns in letters and symbols.

The same tests are already used by doctors to spot signs of dementia. In nine out of 12 tests the average age at which the top performance was achieved was 22. The first age at which there was any marked decline was at 27 in tests of brain speed, reasoning and visual puzzle-solving ability.

Pastor, My husband does not want to work!

BLESSED be the glorious name of our dear Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in the heavens and on earth.
Blessed be His name because He lives and because He liveth, I shall also live. He redeemed me and gave me a sure foundation for his construction. Brethren, remember this, He is on the throne and am reigning with Him. And that applies to every person who is a born again Christian.

I received a text message from one of our readers who enjoys reading this column every week. I felt many people out there are going through the same problem but cannot come out in the open for help. This is why I thought of bringing this problem out so that even those people who are facing the same problem could be helped.

The message went as follows:

Zambia’s false political crisis

There will be many reasons for people to disagree. In fact, disagreeing is a very normal thing in life. The right to dissent, although not recognised as such per se, is a fundamental requirement in any functional society – particularly, that which espouses democracy.

We want to take this opportunity to argue that the right to dissent does not necessarily mean the right to anarchy, a vice that few of our people, with a chain of qualifications in deception boast of.   Read More...
