FOLLOWING the warm response the locally made movie ‘The Lawyer’ received when it premiered at Sterkinekor last year, another local production ‘Lazo’ a creation of Golden Pictures and Joelhood Pictures is set to follow suit in seven weeks time. Confirming the development to the Monitor & Digest Entertainment, creators of the movie said they were excited to see their works viewed at a mass theatre. The filming of Lazo, which has been written and directed by Jack Sakala who prides himself for having written ‘Guns and Rings, a movie which for its ingenuity earned itself a nomination in the 2007 European film festival, has already commenced. Sakala said the shooting of the movie may be completed in about two month’s time which will be followed by a showing at the Sterkinekor Cinemas.
The movie will predominantly feature a cast of upcoming actors and actresses but will also feature popular musician Mc Wabwino among a handful of other prominent faces in the entertainment industry. Giving details about the movie, Sakala said it is based on a fictional idea of a character who makes his living from his house breaking errands but one day breaks in a house only to discover to his horror that is where his girlfriend lives.
“The story revolves around Tom who is the leader of a three-man gang. They have been hired by Mr. Mwansa, a crime lord with some of the police on his pay roll, to steal jewels from a particular house protected by one of the best security systems in the country. With a plain clothed policeman stalking them, Tom must find a way to pull this heist before the clutches of the law close in on him,” reads the synopsis of the movie in part. The movie is the imagination of Joel Sakala, who coincidentally along with the director of the movie, are brothers to the award winning play writer Henry Sakala.
When The MUVI TV produced ‘The Lawyer’ went on big screen, there was a problem of picture quality distortion probably rising from the way it was shot and could not match when taken on big screen
But to forgo this problem after obviously learning from the experience of the lawyer, Lazo co-producer, Mwikisa Lubinda, said the filming of the movie is being done with high definition camera that retains its picture quality irrespective of the size of the screen it shows on.
