Executions 'nearly double' globally PDF Print E-mail

STATE executions have nearly doubled worldwide, with China responsible for nearly three-quarters of them, Amnesty International has said. In a report published on Tuesday, the London-based rights group said 2,390 people were put to death in 25 countries around the world in 2008, up from 1,252 in 2007. The number of people sentenced to death also rose from 3,347 in 2007 to 8,864 in 2008.

Zambia’s false political crisis 

There will be many reasons for people to disagree. In fact, disagreeing is a very normal thing in life. The right to dissent, although not recognised as such per se, is a fundamental requirement in any functional society – particularly, that which espouses democracy.
